Pittsford native crowned Miss New York

A Pittsford native was crowned Miss New York during a pageant in Staten Island on June 18.

Kaitlin Monte was crowned Miss New York 2011 and will represent New York at the 2012 Miss America pageant in Las Vegas in January.

Monte was a student at Pittsford Mendon but left after her sophomore year to attend Clarkson University at age 16. She later graduated from the University of Tampa three months after turning 19-years-old. The 22-year-old lives in New York City where she is pursuing a career in acting and performance.

As Miss New York, Monte receives a $8,500 scholarship, the largest in pageant history. She was recently a surprise guest the June 24 Summer Concert in the Port of Pittsford Park. It was her first official public appearance as Miss New York.
