Pittsford teen dies from unknown causes | News
The Pittsford Mendon School district is mourning the loss of a sophomore student.
School officials say sophmore Molly Thomas passed away Friday from an unknown cause, an autopsy is underway. We're told student athletes who showed up for picture day on Saturday were told of her death.
Molly’s Coach Jason DeJoy said, “Molly was a very positive contributor to the Mendon cross country and track teams. She was the model student-athlete and citizen. She had excellent grades in school and she was also a very dedicated and passionate runner.
She led by example and was very well liked. I know she also volunteered in the community and was a person who thought of those who are less fortunate. She was planning on cleaning up and fixing up homes in Rochester City neighborhoods through the Flower City Work Camp over spring break as her older sister did. You'll be hard pressed to find a better kid.
She was loved by all her teammates and coaches and will be dearly missed. I feel fortunate to have been able to coach her.”
The school district will be offering counseling on Sunday from 9am until 3pm at the Pittsford Mendon gymnasium.
Funeral arrangements for Molly Thomas are set for Tuesday, March 22 at Anthony Funeral Home in Brighton. Calling hours are 1-3pm and 6-9pm, and then Wednesday, March 23at the Church of the Transfiguration on West Bloomfield Road in Pittsford at 11am.
