Rochester Police Officer Anthony DiPonzio shared his story Friday morning about his miraculous recovery after getting shot in the head and the challenges he faced.

DiPonzio was the special guest at the first ever Breakfast with Friends at the Irondequoit Country Club hosted by Catholic Charities

The event was held to raise awareness about traumatic brain injuries and resources in our community that help victims lead functional lives.

Officer DiPonzio says showing his support for this cause is very important to him. “Just happy to be here and be able to raise awareness for a cause that's very near and dear to my heart. Work's been going great. I love walking in every morning and seeing everyone in the office.”

Officer DiPonzio went back to work last November -- almost two years after he was shot.

Statistics say only 10 to 12-percent of people with injuries like DiPonzio’s survive but he continues to defy the odds and recently completed his master's degree in criminal justice administration.
