Social workers protest for new contract, more money | People

Dozens of Monroe County employees were protesting outside county offices on Tuesday.
The Federation of Social Workers says many of its members have been working for 3 years without a contract or a raise. They say they've made sacrifices to help the county's bottom line, which county legislators and Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn have gotten raises.
Now, the union says it wants a fair negotiation, and a new contract.
"We think we've paid our dues by not having a contract for over three years, which probably a little over 50 percent of our members have not had a raise in three years. So we think we've done our part to assist in the budget of Monroe County," says Evelyn Evans, the president of the Federation of Social Workers.
The Federation of Social Workers has about 860 members working in Monroe County.
News10NBC reached out to the county for a comment on the situation, but hasn't heard back.
