Hair, skin and nail beauty trends for Fall

As the seasons change so should your beauty routines. Fall is a time to repair summer damage and prepare for the beauty challenges winter brings. Beauty experts from The Spa at the Del Monte share fall tips and trends for nails, skin and hair.

Spa at the Del Monte Nail Technician Melissa Plouffe said heading into fall it’s a good idea to add paraffin to manicures and pedicures. It can rehydrate, improve circulation and relieve any aches and pains of the feet and hands. As a seasonal treat the Spa will offer pumpkin spice pedicures starting October 1.

Smoldering, soft and earthy shades of beige, brown, purples, greys and greens; and sultry autumn shades of reds and merlots are the in polish colors this fall. Some of Plouffe’s favorites are Essie’s “Glamour Purse,” OPI’s “I Break for Manicures,” “Color to Diner for,” and “Bogota Blackberry.”

You can also support breast cancer awareness this fall with OPI’s Pink of Hearts 2011 pink shatter, which looks great over an opaque white or light pink.

“If you haven’t tried the Gelish soakable gel polish manicure yet, you are missing out,” said Plouffe. “It’s the ultimate in manicures with polish lasting 10 days to two and a half weeks.”

Summer sun and heat can wreak havoc on your skin. Too much sun exposure can cause pigment damage and the heat can clog pores. Fall is a good time to give your skin a rest, let it repair and prepare for winter.

Jamie Scalise, esthetician at the Spa at the Del Monte, recommends ZO Skin Health products, a brand that locally is carried exclusively at the Spa at the Del Monte.

“ZO products wake up and energize the skin so it can get off moisturizer dependency and begin to work on its own,” said Scalise.

Scalise is a big fan of ZO’s retinal products, which he says removes dead skin, unclogs pores, evens skin tone, helps reverse sun damage and stimulates collagen.

Jared Kane, Spa at the Del Monte hair stylist, said fall is time to put more depth and warmth in your hair color as your skin begins to lose its summer tan. Finding a color that is a good contrast between skin and hair will make your eyes and lips pop.

As far as hair styles go, he said styles with loose movement and less structure are in. This season you can’t go wrong with a messy bun.

“You want to look like you’re coming from the party, not going to it,” Kane said.
